Clear Answers. Deeper Conversations.

Where primary care meets context, and your symptoms get the explanation they deserve.

As the holiday season approaches, so does the hustle and bustle that can bring about stress. Let’s talk about how holiday stress can impact your hormones and contribute to weight gain, and of course, explore some solutions to keep your hormone health in check! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The Stress-Hormone Connection: Cortisol and Weight Gain

Meet cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. When stress levels spike, so does cortisol. This can lead to increased appetite, cravings for sugary and high-fat foods, and the storage of abdominal fat. The holiday season, with all its joys and demands, can sometimes tip the cortisol scales, potentially perpetuating weight gain.

๐Ÿฌ Disrupted Sugar Regulation

Holiday treats are delightful, but they can also disrupt your body’s sugar regulation. Stress, combined with sugary indulgences, can lead to spikes and crashes in blood sugar levels. This rollercoaster can leave you feeling fatigued, irritable, and more prone to reaching for quick energy fixesโ€”often in the form of more sugary treats.

๐Ÿน Adrenal Mocktails: A Hormone-Supportive Solution

Now, here’s a fun and healthy solution for you: Adrenal Mocktails! ๐Ÿน These refreshing beverages are crafted with ingredients that support adrenal health, helping to keep cortisol levels in check and promoting overall hormone balance. Consider including ingredients like adaptogenic herbs, vitamin C-rich fruits, and herbal teas known for their calming properties. Check out some of our mocktail recipes in our upcoming blog post. Here’s a teaser of what’s to come!

Adrenal Cocktail

Ingredients

4 oz Orange Juice (freshly squeezed is best)

4 oz Coconut Waterยผ  teaspoon high-quality, fine sea salt

Optional: Collagen or Peptide Powder

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a large glass with a spoon, whisk, or drink frother.

Serve over ice and enjoy!

Other Spins:

  • Want a bubbly bite? Add in Ginger Kombucha

  • Want to add a little brightness? Add in Lemon Juice

Did you know?

Stress also causes a rise in blood sugar. Because of this, our bodies sense danger and prepare us to run because of our natural fight-or-flight response. Regulating your nervous system by avoiding high stress helps with blood sugar stability and will decrease cravings.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for Managing Holiday Stress and Hormones

  • Mindful Breathing: Incorporate deep breathing exercises to help manage stress and lower cortisol levels. Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath and find your calm.

  • Balanced Nutrition: Enjoy holiday treats in moderation, and aim for a well-balanced diet rich in nutrient-dense foods. This can help stabilize blood sugar levels and support overall hormone health.

  • Move Your Body: Physical activity is a fantastic stress-buster. Find ways to move your body, whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or dancing to your favorite holiday tunes.

  • Adrenal Mocktail Recipe: Create your own adrenal mocktail using ingredients like herbal tea, lemon, and a dash of adaptogenic herbs. Experiment and find a combination that suits your taste buds!

While the holidays bring joy, they can also bring stress. By understanding the impact of stress on hormones and weight, and by incorporating hormone-supportive practices, you can navigate the holiday season with balance and well-being in mind.

Remember, your well-being is a gift to cherish.
